Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has addressed recent criticisms on social media accusing him of poor performance and inadequate representation. The senator emphasized that his focus remains on tangible achievements rather than engaging in “social media politics.”

In his response, Senator Karimi highlighted his commitment to grassroots development, asserting that the impact of his work will soon be evident to those who matter most—the people of Kogi West. “My people, I am not into social media politics. My achievements will speak for me. People in the grassroots will see clearly; they matter most,” he said.

To counter the criticism, Senator Karimi announced several initiatives aimed at empowering his constituents. Starting tomorrow, training sessions for women’s cooperative groups will commence in each of Kogi West’s three federal constituencies. Following these sessions, the senator plans to distribute ₦100 million to support women in the region by the end of the month.

Additionally, Senator Karimi revealed plans to aid students within his constituency. From over 2,000 applicants, 1,000 students will be selected to receive a bursary of ₦100,000 each beginning in September, totaling ₦100 million. This initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens and promote education in the region.

Addressing the issue of water supply, Senator Karimi disclosed that he had successfully influenced the inclusion of ₦1.25 billion in the federal budget for water projects under the Ministry of Water Resources. These projects, set to start before the end of the month, will benefit over 110 communities across Kogi West through the construction and rehabilitation of water schemes.

Adding to his recent initiatives, Senator Karimi mentioned that he was allocated 1,963 bags of DPK Fertilizer and 437 bags of Urea, for which he has already paid for transportation from Kaduna and Port Harcourt. These supplies will be distributed across the seven LGAs in Kogi West.

However, Karimi’s response did not fully address concerns raised by constituents who suggested that he might lack the knowledge or experience needed to sponsor legislative bills for new institutions such as universities or federal medical centers. Critics pointed out that many senators and House members have historically sponsored such bills, which are often seen as political maneuvers. They advised Karimi to pay closer attention to the legislative details and processes required for establishing these institutions.

In response to these concerns, Senator Karimi clarified that the creation of institutions typically requires government fiat and white papers, rather than legislation alone. He argued that if the government acted on all proposed bills, it would face financial constraints. “Many of these proposals are political gestures rather than practical solutions,” Karimi explained. “I am committed to focusing on achievable outcomes rather than engaging in political showmanship.”

Senator Karimi also clarified that the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja has been converted to UniLokoja Teaching Hospital and cannot be relocated. He mentioned that while the federal government could establish a new medical center elsewhere in the state, it would require extensive lobbying and would be subject to financial limitations.

Senator Karimi also outlined ongoing infrastructure improvements, including the provision of transformers and solar street lights. He highlighted an agreement with the Minister of Works to repair critical sections of the Kabba-Ilorin road and emphasized ongoing work on the Kabba-Omuo and Aiyegunle-Kiri roads.

In his closing remarks, Senator Karimi reinforced his commitment to delivering results, stating, “Action speaks louder than social media posture. I am not into photo ops in the National Assembly but am focused on quietly doing my best.”

Karimi’s response aims to emphasize his dedication to impactful governance, while also addressing and countering criticisms related to his performance and legislative approach.
