The Deputy Leader of the House of Representatives and member representing Ankpa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali Halims has facilitated the training of 100 of his constituents in the art of soap making to boost the local economy of his area.
The training was facilitated in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and was administered by Onyido and Onyido Nigeria Limited as the lead contractor for the constituents who were mostly women and youths drawn from Ankpa Federal Constituency and environs.
While addressing the participants, the Deputy Leader said: “One of the cardinal points in my agenda for our people is the training and empowerment of women and the vulnerable youth in order to ease their livelihood to enable them to be productively engaged, earn income and thereby reduce the financial burden on their immediate families.”
Rep. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims further revealed that the training was in continuation of his desire to empower his constituents with sustainable businesses that can be easily expanded rather than giving out invaluable amounts of money that has no bearing on the constituency’s economy.
Upon conclusion of the training, beneficiaries will be given cash to start up small-scale productions. When cross examined, the participants all extolled the gesture and described it as very noble, when compared to the scorecard of previous representatives.
Earlier, the resource person of the technical session who had taken participants on the various soap making processes, Ms. Ani Ngozi advised the beneficiaries to take the training very seriously adding that Soap making is a very profiting business if taken seriously.
