The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD CON, has announced ₦2 billion disbursement to flood victims and the launch of the second phase of rice distribution to vulnerable groups.
Governor Radda made this announcement during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of 3,850 bags of 25kg rice, generously donated by the Bank of Industries (BOI) for vulnerable individuals across the state.
This event marks a continuation of the state’s commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by its citizens.
The ₦2 billion fund is earmarked to assist flood victims in rebuilding their homes and businesses that were destroyed by the recent flooding.
This substantial financial support aims to accelerate recovery efforts and restore livelihoods across affected communities in Katsina State.
Expressing gratitude for BOI’s continued support, Governor Radda recalled the bank’s previous donation of food items and urged affluent citizens to emulate this gesture by providing palliatives and empowerment support to vulnerable groups.
He emphasized the importance of collective effort in addressing the needs of the less privileged in society.
The rice distribution, overseen by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), targets internally displaced persons, women, and individuals with special needs across all 34 local government areas of Katsina State.
SEMA Executive Secretary, Hajia Binta Husaini Dangani, highlighted that beneficiaries were carefully selected to ensure the aid reaches those most in need.
Hajia Dangani also noted SEMA’s significant achievements since its establishment 12 years ago, including the execution of 74 various support programmes for vulnerable populations since June 2023. These initiatives have been made possible through collaborations with donor agencies and support from both federal and state governments.
Governor Radda appealed to the beneficiaries to utilize the rice for its intended purpose and refrain from selling the donated items.
