The Executive Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD CON, has launched a significant tree planting campaign in Daura, marking a crucial step in the state’s fight against climate change. The initiative, organized by the Katsina State Agro-climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project in collaboration with the Ahmed Usman Pure Life Foundation, aims to plant 10,000 tree seedlings across the nation, with 3,000 allocated to Daura.

The launch event, held at Kangiwa Square and the School of Health Technology in Daura, was attended by key government officials including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahya and the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari.

Governor Radda announced that 1,000 primary school pupils would each receive a tree seedling along with 5,000 naira as support for nurturing the trees to maturity.

“This annual tree planting campaign is a crucial part of our strategy to address climate change in Katsina State,” stated Governor Radda. “By involving our youth and providing them with the resources to care for these trees, we are investing in both our environment and our future generations.”

The Emir of Daura, HRH Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk expressed gratitude for choosing Daura as the launch site and emphasized the importance of tree planting in preventing desert encroachment. He encouraged the people of the emirate to actively participate in planting and nurturing trees.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Environment, Alhaji Hamza Suleiman Faskari, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Muntari Kado, reported that the ministry had raised and distributed over 3,000 tree seedlings across the state.

Kado assured that close supervision would be maintained to ensure at least 80% of the planted trees reach maturity.

This initiative is part of the efforts of Katsina State Government to promote environmental conservation and sustainable development, setting a precedent for other states in the fight against climate change.
