The Katsina State Government has announced plans to send another batch of 68 qualified indigenous students to China for studies in Artificial Intelligence and Bio-economics under its foreign scholarship program. This development was disclosed by the Deputy Governor, Mallam Faruq Lawal Jobe, who was representing His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD CON.
Speaking at the ongoing Public Engagement, 2025 Citizens Budget Participation Process and Launching of Community Development Programme in Funtua and Daura Senatorial Zones, Deputy Governor Jobe confirmed that the students are set to depart on the 13th of this month. This latest group brings the total number of Katsina indigenes studying abroad under this program to 109.
“His Excellency, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, has directed a comprehensive calculation of the total amount required for accommodation, feeding, and school fees for the entire duration of the program,” stated Deputy Governor Jobe. “This proactive measure ensures that the state can pay the full amount upfront, safeguarding our students from any financial constraints during their stay abroad.”
The Deputy Governor assertedbthat the selection process was meticulously fair, with each of the 34 local governments in the state producing two candidates. These students were primarily identified from public schools and less privileged families, pointing to the administration’s commitment to providing opportunities for talented children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
“All necessary travel documents have been prepared for the students ahead of their departure,” Jobe added, emphasizing the state government’s thoroughness in facilitating this educational initiative.
This latest endeavor follows the sponsorship of 41 students currently pursuing medical studies in Egypt, reflecting the Radda-led administration’s dedication to producing more indigenous doctors for the state’s general hospitals.
Deputy Governor Jobe reaffirmed the current state administration’s determination to reposition the education sector, with a special focus on nurturing talent from underprivileged families. “This scholarship program is just one aspect of our broader strategy to elevate the standard of education in Katsina State and create opportunities for our youth,” he concluded.
