Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has expressed appreciation on the level of inter-religious relationship among followers of two major religions, of Islam and Christianity in the state.
The governor was speaking when he hosted a team of Catholic bishops led by Bishop Hassan Mathew Kukah of Sokoto Diocese on courtesy call.
The governor observed that there was never a serious religious crises between Muslims and Christians in the state.
This he said proved the high level of religious tolerance between them and hoped for its sustenance.
Governor Radda who congratulated the Christian leadership for having a new Catholic Diocese of Katsina, promised more support toward the successful installation of an indigenous Bishop to take charge.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Bishop Hassan Mathew Kukah said they are in Katsina for the Tuesday’s installation of Mamman Musa an indigene of Katsina State as the Bishop of the newly established Diocese.
This, he said, made Katsina separated from the Sokoto Catholic Diocese to operate independently.
Bishop Kukah thanked the state governor for his support to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state.
In his remarks, the new Bishop for the Catholic Diocese, Mamman Musa reaffirmed his preparedness to collaborate with the state government in restoring peace and harmony in the state.
The state Chairman of CAN, Shuaibu Liti said creation of the Catholic Diocese will bring about growth of the diocese and the overall development of the state.
