The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar O Sulaiman, commends President Bola Tinubu’s recent appointment of a Special Assistant on Disability Matters, a move prompted by the Director General’s advocacy during a public dialogue on inclusive governance.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Former Minister of National Planning emphasized that this action underscores the responsiveness of our president, portraying him as a leader who listens.
Recalling the Women in Governance conference organized by NILDS in August, Prof. Sulaiman had urged the President to include youths under 40 in his government. In response, the Commander in Chief appointed individuals within that age group.
During a recent public dialogue and technical engagement on inclusive governance, Prof. Sulaiman reiterated his call for the inclusion of people with disabilities. He urged the President and Political Parties to deepen democratic processes by providing opportunities for women, youth, and persons living with disabilities in their operations. Remarkably, within two days, the President acted on this appeal.
