The appointment of the immediate past Governor, Rivers State, Nzenwo Nyesom Wike came at a time when the nation’s capital is desiring a full fledged reconstruction, rehabilitation and reshaping geared towards meeting a model, modest and a modern city.
Having achieved greatly and won medals from the ruling party as “Mr Project”, it was not out of place the decision of the new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to attach the former Rivers state governor with the new portfolio as FCT Minister.
Nyesom Wike who built many roads, houses and renovated countless ones , had over 13 flyovers to his credit during his leadership at the creek state.
This was against just one flyover built by the FCT administration, under the Buhari government for the same eight years under review from 2015-2023.
Ex- Governor Wike known for ground breaking ceremonies and commissioning of projects in Rivers state, had invited both ruling and opposition elements along with former and serving governors, ex- Ministers and top political leaders to inaugurate projects as evidenced in his unique performance.
With the assumption of duty of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, no doubt the abandoned roads, housing and flyover projects scattered around the city centre and underdeveloped satellite and area councils that only existed by nomenclature, without adequate facilities will bounce back.
The abandoned Apo -Karshi flyover, the need to open up other areas desiring flyovers even if it is twelve or thirteen constructed in Rivers state will serve as a better initiatives that will decongest the city centre.
Many dilapidated FCT roads, the dearth of roads in the six area councils of Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, Kwali, Bwari and AMAC the host council of the nation’s capital will go along way to ameliorate the problem of road users.
Inadequate houses both for the civil servants and the private sector as well as other business conglomerates will be tackled by the Wike led Federal Capital Territory administration.
It is on record that the FCT had leveraged on the nation’s capital to play down on the provision of social services, security, but only indulged in endless planning with non execution, as Wike in his character will discourage the continuity of such abberation.
For Governor Nyesom Wike who was already tested and trusted, will bring back the lost glory of the nation’s city, hitherto neglected for many decades yearning for outright rehabilitation.
