The National Director , Women Affairs Project Beyond 2023, Hajiya Hafsat M.B.Usman has pleaded with the labour leaders to consider the overall interest of Nigerians and shelve the planned strike scheduled to begin on Wednesday August 2.
She asked them to demonstrate patriotism particularly as the new administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is grappling to settle down after been sworn in May.
The Women Director charged the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC and Trade Union Congress TUC not to shut down the country, as it will lead to an incalculable damages and huge loss of revenue meant to ameliorate pressing social services in the country.
She assured the labour leaders and Nigerian workers of the interest in the welfare of workers who have been shortchanged in all areas, all in the name of subsidizing the consumption of fuel for over four decades.
Hajiya Usman maintained that the well being of the citizenry is paramount to the new administration, therefore the need for concerted and concrete efforts to resolve the lingering fuel subsidy through removal will be the only way out.
She acknowledged the current hardship been experienced by Nigerians, but promised that on the long run, it will become a thing of the past that will be beneficial to all Nigerians.
Mrs Hafsat observed that the ongoing repositioning by the new administration in all facets of our national life will be a set back, without the cooperation of labour unions and it’s leaders across the country.
While appealing to them not to go ahead with the threat, she said the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the listening type, that will ameliorate the critical situations across all strata.
