Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda opened a 3-day labour retreat yesterday in the state’s capital. The retreat, organized by the Office of the Special Adviser on Labour and Productivity, has the theme: “Labour Management Relations: Straitening The Existing Bond of Relationship for Robust and Meaningful Engagement.”
The retreat aims to enhance government-labour relations through communication and collaboration. It also seeks to increase investment in the capabilities of state government employees, the unions they represent, and decent and sustainable work practices.
Governor Radda commended the rich history of the labour movement in Katsina and expressed his admiration for the support and cooperation given to his administration by the trade unions. He also acknowledged their contribution to the state’s development and for ensuring continuity of government policies.
In the same vein, the Katsina Governor applauded the retreat organizers for bringing together vast resource persons. He urged the participants to explore and benefit from the wide knowledge of these resource persons. He also stressed the importance of participants acquiring practical skills and brainstorming best approach in industrial relations for effective industrial harmony in the state.
While highlighting the crucial partnership between labour unions and the government, Governor Radda acknowledged their shared responsibility for building a prosperous and harmonious future for the state. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering positive labour-government relations and building stronger ties for collective progress.
Governor Radda further stressed the need for strategic collaboration between the government and labour unions to address challenges like financial limitations and security concerns. He called for innovative thinking that considers global realities, changing both economic and environmental situations.
He urged the labour leaders to actively participate in the retreat and utilize acquired knowledge to develop sustainable strategies to support the government, particularly in attracting revenue and investments. He concluded by expressing his confidence in labour as a willing partner in developing Katsina State.
