As part of activities marking the 2023 edition of 16 days of activism against gender based violence, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has initiated a partnership with the Malaysian High Commission towards harnessing the potentials of female students in line with the Ministry’s sustained efforts to reposition the girl child as a major stakeholder in Nigeria.
Speaking during a program organized in collaboration with the Malaysian High Commission, the Honorable Ministry of Women Affairs, Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye commended the organizers of the event which was put together to sensitize female students on the importance of personal care and stress management among school girls and expressed the Ministry’s resolve to partner with the Malaysian High Commission to harness the potentials of the students through skill acquisition and vocational training programs which will further actualize the Ministry’s plans to unlock the potentials of the female students and encourage them to be productive and self-sustaining in the future.
Earlier in her presentation, the Charge d’Affairs Malaysian High Commission in Nigeria, Ms Sharmini Gopal stated that personal hygiene among young girls is a very essential aspect of their lives as it helps to protect them from getting infected and to maintain optimum health status. She added that the Malaysian High Commission consented to the program as part of its corporate social responsibility towards the Nigerian government.
During the event, there were presentations on the importance of personal care and stress management by Chairman of Zankli Medical Centre, Dr. Funke Lawson and Health Promotion by Ms. Jacinta Agbanyim from the Federal Ministry of Health while female students from the Science and Technology College Garki made presentations on production of innovative vehicle brake pads from waste palm kernel shell and animal bones, conversion of waste banana trunks into re-usable sanitary pads in addition to other innovative presentations by the students.
Aside from other female students drawn from other schools in the FCT, other dignitaries at the event include the Director Regions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador, Janet Olisa, Director-General National Centre for Technology Management, Dr. Sola Odusanya and members from the civil society organizations.
