TESS Project Is A Response to Pressing Education Challenges in Katsina – Coordinator

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda today announced reforms in the education sector, while issuing strict directives against arbitrary teacher transfers during the distribution of educational materials worth billions of naira at Government House, Katsina.

In his address, Governor Radda emphasized that education secretaries would be held accountable for any unauthorized teacher transfers, stating that such actions severely disrupt the educational system.

“Teacher transfers must be based solely on genuine needs, not personal interests,” the Governor declared, adding that he would personally conduct school visits to ensure compliance and monitor punctuality.

The Governor also unveiled a massive distribution of educational resources including 25,000 copies each of Mathematics, Computer Science, and English textbooks for Primary 4-6 students.

The initiative equally recorded deployment of 18 buses for project coordination and special needs equipment for the School for the Blind.

As part of the infrastructure development plan, Governor Radda announced the disbursement of ₦4.737 billion to 150 primary schools identified with significant infrastructure deficits. These funds will support the construction of classroom blocks, toilet facilities, and water infrastructure to advance the administration’s goal of creating conducive learning environments across the state.

To enhance monitoring and evaluation, the Governor distributed 70 motorcycles to quality assurance officers across the 34 local government areas. “The administration has also prioritized security through the installation of CCTV cameras in schools and provided essential materials including school bags, uniforms, and exercise books to students from underprivileged communities,” he added.

Governor Radda called on School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) and community members to take ownership of these projects, emphasizing the importance of maintenance culture and community involvement in protecting school infrastructure. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving teacher welfare, noting that a system of rewards for dedicated educators has already been implemented.

“These interventions represent our administration’s unwavering commitment to transforming education in Katsina State,” Governor Radda stated. “By providing the necessary resources and infrastructure, we are creating an environment where every child can excel and thrive.”

In her remarks, state Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education Hajia Zainab Musawa ably represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Hajiya Ummulkhairi Ahmed Bawa Faskari, stressed that under the Governor’s guidance, Katsina State has witnessed remarkable strides in the education sector, and today’s event is yet another testament to his dedication to empowering people through knowledge.

Hajiya Ummulkhair continued by acknowledging the support of traditional and religious leaders, community-based organizations, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders in building a legacy of hope and opportunity for future generations.

Earlier, in her keynote address, Hajiya Binta Abdulmumin, State Project Coordinator, Transforming Education System (TESS), explains that the project represents a strategic and visionary response to the pressing challenges confronting our education sector. “It addresses key areas of concern—access, equity, quality, and accountability—with the goal of transforming our schools into centers of excellence and nurturing environments for holistic development,” she added.

Hajiya Binta equally commended the Governor noting that none of these achievements would have been possible without his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the advancement of education in Katsina State.

The event, held at the Old Government House, Katsina had key government officials and stakeholders in attendance including Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Yahaya Daura; Chairman of Katsina State Universal Education Board, Dr. Kabir Magaji; Chief Judge of Katsina, Malam Musa Danladi Abubakar; State Commissioner of Finance, Hon Bello Kagara; Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Abdullahi Ahmed Turaji,State Parents Teachers Association ( P.T.A) Chairman,Yandakan Katsina,Alhaji Sada Muhammad Sada and S.B.M.C State Chairman, Alhaji Bello Chiroman Ingawa amongst others.
