Former military of the defunct Bendel State and National Vice Chairman, North Central, of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Tunde Ogbeha, CON, has mourned the death of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, describing him as a rare statesman, businessman and elder whose contributions to the state and Nigeria would be remembered.
Idris, popularly known as Ibro, reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in London, United Kingdom.
In a condolence message, Ogbeha said he received the news of Idris’ death with “great sorrow and profound sadness,” describing the deceased as a friend, brother, peace-builder and a “detribalised Nigerian.”
Ogbeha said Idris’ tenure as governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012 laid what he described as a solid foundation for the growth and unity of the state.
According to him, the former governor was a man of peace, humility and uncommon generosity whose commitment to people-oriented governance left an enduring legacy.
“Kogi State has lost a colossus, North Central has lost a pillar, and Nigeria has lost an elder statesman whose counsel and wisdom will be sorely missed,” Ogbeha said.
The ADC National Vice Chairman expressed condolences to Idris’ immediate family, the government and people of Kogi State.
Ogbeha, who extended the condolences on behalf of his family and the ADC in the North Central zone, prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive Idris’ shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for the fortitude for the family, friends and Nigerians to bear what he described as an “irreparable loss.”
