The Pastor in Charge of Region 10 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Jide Akiode, has described sports as an effective means of evangelism and youth engagement for national development.
Pastor Akiode stated this during an interview with journalists at the 2026 Football Competition organised by the RCCG Region 10 Directorate of Sports at the Goal Project, National Stadium Abuja.
According to him, sports provide a platform for promoting Christian values, unity, discipline, and peaceful coexistence among youths, while also serving as a channel for evangelism and talent development.
He urged Nigerian youths to shun all forms of social vices, embrace education, and actively participate in sporting activities for personal growth and national progress.
“Education is not a scam; it remains a vital tool in shaping the future of every child and building a better society,” he said.
The cleric further stressed the important role parents play in raising responsible children and ensuring that they are guided away from negative influences and antisocial behaviours.
Also speaking, Pastor Gabriel Oladapo described the football competition as an avenue for winning souls for Christ and fostering national integration among young people across the country.
Oladapo explained that the competition was designed to discover and nurture talents among youths, while encouraging them to become productive and responsible members of society.
He called on Nigerian youths to eschew all forms of negative behaviour. (NAN)
