The Egume–Ome Descendants Union (EODU) has called on the Kogi State Government and other stakeholders to support the reconstruction of the Palace of the Onu of Egume, the traditional headquarters of Okura District in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The National President of EODU, Comrade Sunday Maji, made the appeal while addressing journalists in Abuja following the official launch of the palace renovation project.
Comrade Maji emphasized the importance of government intervention, noting that such support would reflect the administration’s commitment to preserving and strengthening traditional institutions across the state. He described the Onu Egume Palace as a symbol of cultural heritage and unity for the people of the community.
He assured that the Egume community remains committed to contributing its quota toward the successful completion of the project. He also appealed to government agencies, non-governmental organizations, corporate bodies, and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative financially.
The fundraising event, held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Colonnade Hall, Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, attracted dignitaries from various sectors.
The occasion was chaired by Hon. Paul Gowon Haruna (IJN), member representing Bassa/Dekina Federal Constituency, while the Auditor-General of Kogi State, Hon. Y.Y. Okala, attended as the Special Guest.
Several groups and associations made generous donations in support of the project. Notably, Chief Dr. Joseph Ameh Erico contributed the sum of ₦50 million, alongside other donors who pledged substantial support toward the renovation of the historic palace.
