KOGI —A former Deputy Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State, Dr. Omede Idris, has called on the electorate in Yagba Federal Constituency to re-elect the lawmaker representing the area, Hon. Leke Abejide, in the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Idris, who also served as Commissioner for Health in Kogi State, made the appeal while assessing Abejide’s performance in office. He described the federal lawmaker as “a performer, achiever and a capable politician” whose contributions to development have earned widespread recognition beyond his constituency.
The Yagba Federal Constituency comprises Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopa-Amuro local government areas in Kogi West Senatorial District.
According to Idris, Abejide has distinguished himself through impactful representation, noting that his legislative and constituency interventions have positively affected various segments of society.
He said, “Hon. Abejide has demonstrated a strong commitment to inclusive development, human capital advancement and community engagement. His track record shows a clear understanding of the needs of his people.”
Idris listed several initiatives credited to the lawmaker, including support for security agencies, solar-powered community lighting, agricultural assistance, educational support for students, and improvements in healthcare infrastructure, including an ongoing hospital project within the constituency.
He also cited projects such as road construction, borehole drilling for water supply, and targeted welfare programmes for vulnerable groups, including widows, orphans, youths and the elderly.
The former ADC chieftain argued that high-performing legislators should be given the opportunity to return to office, noting that such continuity enhances effective representation.
“In many constituencies, performing lawmakers are given the right of first refusal based on their achievements. Hon. Abejide’s scorecard clearly meets such benchmarks,” he said.
Idris further noted that Abejide’s style of representation has drawn admiration from beyond his constituency, adding that many communities would desire similar leadership if given the opportunity.
While hinting at ongoing political realignments ahead of 2027, he urged supporters of the Abejide political family, particularly in Kogi East, to remain patient as consultations continue.
He described the lawmaker as “a marketable political brand” with a strong grassroots appeal, expressing confidence in his chances of victory in future elections.
Idris also reaffirmed the commitment of his supporters to align with Abejide’s political direction, stressing that they remain united and prepared for the next phase of engagement.
