The Igala nation has always been known for courage, resilience, honour, and collective integrity. Throughout our history—pre-colonial, colonial, and post-independence—we have remained a strong and unconquered people. Unfortunately, the present political atmosphere in Kogi State reflects a troubling decline in these values, driven by the insincerity and betrayal of some individuals parading themselves as leaders of the Igala people.
Our stomach is naturally made for both hunger and satisfaction. Only fools and perfidious politicians assume that hunger must be feared even before it comes. This needless fear has made some sell their conscience and the future of their people long before any real need arises.
Even money—whose functions John Maxwell describes as finance and general utility—cannot buy integrity, honour, or dignity. Yet some political actors have reduced themselves to merchants, trading the collective interest of the Igala nation for personal benefits.
Today we see disturbing levels of political compromise. Some have become commodities easily bought, reflecting a painful absence of tenacity, self-worth, and responsibility. This has weakened the Igala majority in Kogi State, making us politically answerable to those we should naturally lead.
Power Is Never Served À La Carte
Let it be clearly stated: power is not served à la carte; it must be fought for. Even the Bible declares that “the kingdom of God suffereth violence, and the violent taketh it by force.” Waiting endlessly for political “turns” in an era of political insincerity is self-deception.
Modern political actors lack ideology and integrity. Many are perfidious stage players, driven by personal gain rather than collective interest. Therefore, the Igala must be fully prepared to struggle for political power.
Politics has no permanent friendship—only permanent interest. No one can love another tribe or group more than their own.
Recall how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu contested fiercely against his own former protégé, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, during the APC presidential primary. Power is attractive to everyone, and no one surrenders it willingly.
The same happened in Imo State, where the Owerri Senatorial seat was once contested between a master and his own aide—Chief Arthur Nzeribe and Senator Osita Izunaso. Politics is governed by strategy, not sentiment.
The Igala Must Reclaim Their Mandate
Those claiming that power “belongs to this one or that one” are deceiving themselves and misleading their sponsors. The Igala nation will contest the next governorship with full strength. We have conducted a comprehensive review of the events of 2019 and 2023 and are already developing new strategies to reclaim power.
Since politics is a game of numbers, who says you must belong to a particular party to win?
NNPP governs Kano.
APGA governs Anambra.
Labour Party governs Abia.
This proves there is no impossibility in politics, except for those who choose to limit themselves and become political beggars.
With the emerging political realignments across Nigeria, imposition and manipulation are no longer unbeatable threats. There are always alternatives.
Therefore, let it be clearly stated:
NEVER again shall the Igala nation fold its arms. NEVER shall we submit to manipulation. NEVER shall we mortgage our collective destiny.
A Call to Action
We condemn, in strong terms, the rising political insincerity among some Igala sons. We call on all true sons and daughters of the Igala nation to rise with unity, clarity, and courage to reclaim our rightful political position in Kogi State.
The Igala nation is not weak. We are not defeated. We are only temporarily distracted by a perfidious minority. The majority must now rise, speak, and act.
