To His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Speaker and members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Senator Jibrin Isah Echoho representing Kogi East, Distinguished Honourable Halims, Deputy Majority Leader of the Federal House of Representatives, the Commissioner for Health of Kogi State, and to the general public, I write to draw urgent attention to the plight of the people of Ankpa Local Government regarding the deplorable condition of Ankpa General Hospital.
The hospital is currently being served by only one or two doctors, as over twenty‑five medical doctors have retired in the past ten years without any replacements. In addition, three nurses and other health professionals have also retired and have not been replaced by the Kogi State Government. This acute shortage of staff has turned the facility into a death trap, with an estimated fifty to one hundred citizens dying every week.
We therefore appeal to His Excellency Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Speaker and members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Senator Jibrin Isah Echoho, Distinguished Honourable Halims, and the Commissioner for Health to urgently intervene by filling the vacant medical positions. The situation is unacceptable to humanity; Ankpa General Hospital has suffered for far too long, and we, as a people, cannot continue like this.
We humbly request swift and decisive action to restore competent doctors, nurses, and other health professionals to the hospital so that the avoidable loss of life can be halted. Thank you for your compassion and urgent attention to this matter of life‑and‑death for our community.
