Governor Radda Pays Tribute to Fallen Heroes, Reaffirms Support for Security Forces

Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has paid tribute to fallen military heroes and emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting security forces and veterans.

Governor Radda made this known during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Katsina.

Upon arrival, the Governor was recieved by Brigade Commander Brigadier General B. O. Omopariola and inspected a guard of honour mounted by personnel from the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Legion.

In his address, Governor Radda stated, “Today’s commemoration honours those brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our fatherland.” Quoting General S. Patton’s words that “it is better to fight for something in life than to die for nothing.”

The Governor acknowledged the veterans of the Nigerian Civil War, and various ongoing security operations, praising their dedication to national stability and unity.

He highlighted the continuing sacrifices being made by security personnel across the country, noting that “even as we speak, our courageous men and women face dangers in various theaters of operation.”

Governor Radda expressed particular concern for the psychological and physical trauma endured by surviving service members and the lasting impact on families who lose their loved ones in the line of duty.

“These families bear the scars of their heroes’ sacrifice throughout their lifetime,” he observed.

Recognizing the improved security situation in Katsina State, the Governor credited the dedication and discipline of the Armed Forces, police, and other security agencies.

He commended the positive relationship between security personnel and host communities, urging its continuation.

“The Government of Katsina State remains resolute in supporting our veterans, armed forces, and security agencies in eliminating banditry and criminality,” Governor Radda reassured.

He specifically praised the efforts of the 17 Brigade Nigerian Army and 213 Nigerian Air Force Force Forward Operating Base in supporting civil authorities.

The Governor concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring Katsina’s reputation as a peaceful, progressive, and hospitable state. He offered prayers for fallen service members and extended his wishes to their families during the remembrance celebration.

Earlier, during the wreath-laying ceremony at the cenotaph, Governor Radda was joined by key dignitaries including the Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, representatives of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon Abduljalal Runka and Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi as well as representatives of the Emirs of Katsina and Daura.

As part of the commemoration, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion Katsina State Chapter, Warrant Officer Ahmad Hussaini (Rtd), decorated Governor Radda with the remembrance emblem to honour and support veterans and families of fallen heroes.

Military and security leaders that actively participated in the ceremony included Brigade Commander, Brig Gen BO Omopariola, Air Commodore G. I. Jibia of the 213 Forward Operating Base Nigerian Air Force and the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar Musa.
