In his short but eventful 36 years, Ekele was one of the best fighter pilot of his generation,the top gun of Nigeria, he was three times best figher pilot in Nigeria and Africa and 3rd best in the world at one time.
He trained the 2nd generation of Mig fighter pilots in Nigeria
As the leading NAF Test Pilot, he evaluated sophisticated fighter jets for Nigeria including the Mirage F-1 and the American F-20 Tigershark (the best fighter jet that never went into commercial production for a variety of reasons). He was probably the only pilot from sub sahara Africa (if not Africa) to test fly that plane.
He also set up the first strike group command of the NAF in Markudi comprising Mig 21s and Jaguar jets.
He was executed by IBB military junta for the phantom mamman vatsa coup.
