The Katsina State Government, under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD CON, has donated a sum of N50 million in support of victims affected by the recent tragic tanker explosion in Majia town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
A high-level delegation led by Katsina State Deputy Governor, Malam Farouk Lawal Jobe, Sarkin Fulanin Jobe visited Jigawa State yesterday to convey condolences on behalf of Governor Radda and the people of Katsina State.
The devastating incident, which claimed approximately 171 lives and left 75 others hospitalized, has particularly impacted the youth population, with 60% of victims between ages 17-35.
During the visit, Deputy Governor Lawal expressed profound sympathy, stating, “Our hearts are with the people of Majia town, and we are deeply touched by this unfortunate incident. May Allah’s mercy be with the souls of the deceased, and we pray for a swift recovery of those injured.”
In response, Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi expressed gratitude for the show of solidarity and support from neighbouring states. He assured that his government has implemented proactive measures to address the crisis, including the distribution of relief materials to affected communities.
Governor Namadi also guaranteed transparent and effective distribution of all donated funds to intended beneficiaries.
Deputy Governor Jobe was in Jigawa alongside Northern Governors Forum delegation including governors from Gombe and Bauchi states, while Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, and Taraba states were represented by their respective deputy governors.
Prior to this visit, on October 16, 2024, Governor Radda had earlier issued a formal statement of condolences to Governor Namadi and the people of Jigawa State.
