Wive of the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Hajia Fatima Dikko Radda, led a vibrant #PinkOctober Solidarity Walk across strategic streets of Katsina to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

The event brought together government officials, healthcare professionals, and community members in a united front against breast cancer.

Explaining the rationale behind the walk, Hajia Fatima noted that, “We walked for the sick ones lying on hospital beds undergoing chemotherapy trauma. We walked for those we’ve lost and for all the cancer warriors.”

“It is a walk to show support and commitment towards fighting a common enemy.

Every step we took represented hope, strength, and the desire to support our warriors,” she furthered.

The First Lady’s initiative is in line with the state government’s commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer and supporting those affected by the disease.

The walk served not only as a visible reminder of the ongoing battle against breast cancer but also as a sense of hope for patients, survivors, and their families.

The Katsina State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Hadiza Abubakar Yar’adua emphasized the collective nature of this fight.

“Breast cancer is a battle no woman should face alone. It is a challenge that affects not just the individual but families, communities, and society at large.”

Hajia Hadiza further stressed the significance of the awareness day, stating, “This awareness day serves as a critical reminder of the importance of early detection, regular screening, and the provision of support systems for women battling this disease.”

The #PinkOctober Solidarity Walk resonated several key messages, including the importance of early detection and regular screening, the need for improved healthcare services for breast cancer patients and increased access to screening facilities across the state

In a heartfelt message to those affected by breast cancer, the First Lady reassured, “To the women who have been affected by breast cancer — you’re not alone. We walk with you, we support you, and we will continue to advocate for better healthcare services, increased access to screening, and resources to support survivors.”

The Katsina State Government, through this initiative, reaffirms its commitment to women’s health and wellbeing. The #PinkOctober Solidarity Walk sparked increased dialogue about breast cancer, encouraged more women to undergo regular screenings, and fostered a supportive community for those battling the disease.
