Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has inaugurated district-level committees for Zakat and Waqaf in all the state’s 34 Local Government Areas.
Governor Radda outlined the committee’s terms of reference to include the collection and distribution of Zakat under the sole supervision of the Zakat and Waqaf Board. He emphasised that giving Zakat and Waqaf is a sure way to attain Allah’s mercy and overcome challenges.
The committee will be spearheaded by the respective district heads in each community, and the Director of Education and Social Services will serve as its secretary.
Other members of the committee include representatives from the state House of Assembly, traders, farmers, animal sellers, Izala, and Munazzamatu.
At the ceremony, the Katsina Governor emphasised his administration’s efforts towards combating social vices through the recent establishment of the Hizba Board.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Zakat and Waqaf Board in Katsina, Dr. Ahmad Musa Filin Samji, announced that the board has set a target of three N3.5 billion in Zakat collection. He also revealed that 5,000 vulnerable people have been identified in each local government area to receive Zakat.
The global chairman of the Coalition and Sadaukin Sokoto, Muhammad Lawal Mai Doki, pledged to provide training to traditional rulers on the collection and administration of Zakat.
The inauguration of the Zakat and Waqaf committees marks a significant step towards strengthening the state’s social welfare programmess and promoting Islamic values.
