The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, attended the launch of the “Hands of Our Girls” and “We Are Equal” campaigns in Freetown, Sierra Leone. She was ably represented by the Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju Kennedy, who delivered the opening address.

Barr. Kennedy commended the launch of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) “We Are Equal” Campaign in Sierra Leone, emphasizing its significance in uniting efforts to protect girls and ensure their rights and potentials are honored.

In her address, Barr. Kennedy stated, “The launch of Sierra Leone’s ‘Hands of Our Girls’ campaign resonates deeply with the challenges and aspirations we share across the continent. I congratulate Her Excellency Fatima Maada Bio and the people of Sierra Leone on this crucial step and their remarkable journey over the past five years. This initiative has created a safer environment and greater opportunities for women and girls to lead healthier and better lives.”

She further emphasized the need for African countries to unite in the collective campaign against child marriage, teenage pregnancy, child trafficking, and violence against women, which are barriers to overall development, peace, and progress.

The President of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, and the First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, jointly expressed their gratitude to the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for her unwavering commitment and support in the campaign for a just society for women and gender, paving the way for them to reclaim their lives and hope for the future.

The event was graced by First Ladies from various African countries, representatives, and the international community.
