The Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives and Member Representing Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims and the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo met in the National Assembly and had a fruitful discussion for a comprehensive strengthening of their relationship towards jobs creation and Youths employment.
Speaking at the meeting, Rep. Halims disclosed the national significance of Youths ability towards combatting crimes and restiveness, noting that the country is in dire need of reducing the rate of youths unemployment.
The Federal Lawmaker revealed that his primary aim of joining politics was to be an active player in ensuring that societal critical needs such as portable water, affordable healthcare, education and agriculture development are made easy for the downtrodden with a view to creating a sustainable economic future for generations yet unborn.
He said, “in my constituency, we have a pool of young and willing Nigerians who are ready to work, eminently qualified and deserved to be engaged. My people have pride in the work of their hands and I’ll need you to help me actualise their desires.
A lot of young people are ready to work on the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) and have been applying year in year out. I want us to collaborate and give these people a chance in the various paramilitary outfits under your ministry” he said.
The Minister affirmed Rep. Halims’ arguments and assured that he is willing to deepen their erstwhile bond by giving special considerations to the people of Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro Federal Constituency in the various CDCFIB recruitments adding that it is meaningless for young people to go through the stress of education and fall back to their parents or nothing after many years of learning.
Unemployment borders me as much as it hurts you. I cannot understand how the number of applicants shoot in ascending progression every year. We have to sit at a table and find a solution to it. In the ministry of Interior, there are many areas of potential collaboration that we can explore and get young people engaged.
“As a former lawmaker, I can imagine the pressure of job seekers, the burden of occupying and elected office, let alone House Leadership. The time is always very short and we must make a mark before the next election cycle, else; these good intentions will not translate to any meaningful impact. So, we will have to make things happen as quickly as possible.” the minister said.
While thanking the Honourable Minister, Rep. Halims affirmed that President Tinubu is eager to make reasonable impacts that will positively change the future for many Nigerians. The Deputy House Leader reiterated his awareness of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intention for progressive legacies in social security provision, improved education, health, employment and institutional reforms adding that their own collaboration will be a complementary effort towards the actualisation of the President’s desire.
