The Managing Director, Chief Executive officer CEO, Federal Housing Authority FHA, Senator Gbenga Ashafa has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating a separate Ministry for Housing and Urban Development in his current administration to bridge the housing deficit in the country.
Ashafa who mentioned this during a press conference on Friday to mark the commencement of the 50th anniversary of the organization at the headquarters, said the new development was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, and the determination to provide affordable housing to Nigerians .
He said the FHA which commenced operations in 1973 from Festac Town, Diamond Estate in Abesan 1, 2, 3, 4,5 has spread across the six geopolitical zones across the country.
“We are able to expand to the nation’s city in Abuja, Maitama, Asokoro , Kado, Gwarimpa and lately Zuba and Bwari.” He said .
He assured Nigerians that the new FHA is fully digitalised and automated with a view to meeting the current realities in the current administration and reduced to the barest minimum forgeries and sharp practices.
Senator Ashafa shed more light on the ongoing transformation in the authority through clearing of backlog of promotions, replacement of junior staffs, and carried out reclamation program that had recovered most of it’s encroached assets across the country.
“The construction of Zuba Housing Estate, Bwari Estate, Golden jubilee estate in Mbora, Lugbe, replication in Lagos as well as the construction of the new Smart city in Abuja will be prioritized.”
The Managing Director said the authority had introduced a ‘Rent to Own” housing program to accommodate the low income earners, through the Federal Housing Mortgage Bank FHAMB , owned by the authority positioned as one of the the robust Primary Mortgage Institution (PMI), as approved by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. “The Echo friendly homes introduced by the authority through FHA Mortgage Bank allocated housed to some Nigerians to ensure a virile accomodation.”
While using the opportunity to solicit for the supports of the Media, Senator Gbenga Ashafa promised to continue in this trend towards providing living accomodation to Nigerians .
He used the opportunity to invite the members of fourth estate of the realm and the general public to it’s golden jubilee anniversary scheduled to hold from Thursday 23rd to Friday 24th November, 2023.
