Adamant and wasteful Nigerians had refused to heed the Vice President, Kashim Shettima’s advise to avoid advert or any sort of congratulatory message on his birthday, but rather channel the resources to the poor masses and the needy.
A survey on the national dailies carried out on Saturday confirmed the development as most newspapers occupied their pages with congratulatory messages, to mark the Vice President 57th birthday.
It has become the tradition of Nigerians to use this medium as a lobbying strategy in quest for appointments among many others.
But, the tradition is awkward in view of the advise of the celebrant, as the best way to stop reoccurrence will be to deny such people their desires.
It will be recalled that Nigeria’s Vice President clocked 57 years on Saturday, but in a media statement, he earlier announced that no one should place an advert or congratulatory messages on any medium of communication, that was not heeded.
