The Social Democratic Party SDP Candidate in Kogi state, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka has petitioned the inspector General of Police, Egbetokun, over continuous threat to life, intimidation, harassment, blackmail, treasonable felony, and terrorism charges by Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello.
The petition was submitted by Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN on Wednesday, 12th July, 2023.
In the petition, Falana mentioned that since the nomination of Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka as Social Democratic Party SDP Candidate in Kogi state , Governor Yahaya Bello has denied him and his large political followers of lawful assemblage and peace in Kogi state against their fundamental human rights.
The petitioner avered that Kogi Governor using the state apparatus had launched a violent attacks on SDP candidate and it’s supporters with premeditated intentions to install his cousin brother as the next Kogi Governor.
The illegality of Kogi Governor was occasioned during an attack on the SDP candidate while returning to Lokoja around Banda after a familiarisation visit to the ohimege igu of Kotonkarfe, on June 3rd , 2023.
Falana also in the petition accused the state commissioner of police , other security agencies of refusing to investigate a petition written by the SDP candidate, rather than acting in cahot with the state government to arrest and hounder him with terrorism and treasonable felony act and possibly eliminate him.
The legal icon is appealing to the inspector General of Police to caution and investigate the state commissioner of police and it’s men, who are on Kogi Governors pay roll and also investigate the reason behind the manhunt for SDP governorship for possible trump up charges.
The Governor who described himself as a ‘lion’ returning to his den was crossed by an ‘antelope ‘ referring to the SDP candidate as an antelope.
