The Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, today announced plans to introduce new legislation aimed at protecting forest reserves and newly planted trees across Katsina State.

The announcement came during the launch of a tree planting campaign at the School of Health Technology in Daura.

Governor Radda stated, “Our administration is committed to safeguarding our environment. We will soon present an executive bill to the State House of Assembly that will impose penalties on those found guilty of tampering with forest reserves or uprooting trees planted in various parts of the state.”

Explaining the socio-economic benefits of trees, the Governor pledged to significantly expand the state’s tree planting efforts. “Next year, we aim to raise and plant one million tree seedlings across Katsina State,” he announced. Governor Radda urged the management and students of the School of Health Technology to nurture the newly planted trees to maturity, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation.

In addition to environmental initiatives, the Governor addressed infrastructural development at the institution. “We have awarded a contract for the construction of a science laboratory at this school,” he said. “Furthermore, we are actively looking into solutions for the accommodation challenges faced by the institution.”

Recall that the State Commissioner of Environment, Alhaji Hamza Suleiman Faskari, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Muntari Kado has declared that the ministry raised and distributed over 3,000 tree seedlings across the state. Kado assures residents that close supervision would be maintained to ensure at least 80% of the planted trees reach maturity.

These measures will aid environmental protection and educational development, demonstrating a holistic approach to sustainable growth in Katsina state.
