The Executive Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD CON, announces the state’s readiness to join the Open Government Partnership (OGP), a multi-lateral and multinational initiative aimed at creating collaboration between government and civil society. This also includes promoting transparent, participatory, inclusive, and accountable governance.

Governor Radda has directed the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning to initiate the process of joining the OGP. This move underscores the Governor’s commitment to enhancing transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in governance.

Governor Radda stated, “Our decision to join the OGP is a testament to our uninterrupted vision for good governance. It aligns perfectly with our promise to establish the Katsina State Bureau of Public Sector Reform (KTSBPSR), which is contained in our Building Your Future Strategic Policy.”

The Governor further emphasized, “We have already taken significant steps towards reform by establishing the Public Administration Reform Department in Katsina State. This department is tasked with sustaining ongoing reforms and introducing new ones to enhance service delivery to our citizens. Joining the OGP is the next logical step in our journey towards a more open and accountable government.”

As part of the process, Governor Radda has directed the immediate setting up of the State Steering Committee with equal membership from the government and civil society, coordinating the secretariat, and liaising with the Nigeria OGP National Secretariat to include Katsina State in the partnership.

“We are not just joining the OGP; we are embracing its principles wholeheartedly,” Governor Radda declared. “Our administration is committed to empowering citizens, fighting corruption, and harnessing new technologies to strengthen governance. We believe that by working together—government and civil society—we can build a brighter future for Katsina State.”

In lieu of the foregoing, the Governor has directed the relevant ministries to prepare a draft state action plan and independent report mechanism templates, demonstrating the state’s commitment to meeting OGP standards.
