Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has congratulated Nigeria’s male senior football national team – the Super Eagles – for securing a semi-final spot at the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON.
The Eagles defeated the Palanca Negras of Angola by a lone goal in a thrilling quarter final game yesterday at the 2023 AFCON tournament, currently being staged in Ivory Coast.
The Coach Jose Peseiro-tutored side is the first African team to pick a last four ticket, and will now be dreaming of another continental glory, 11 years after the Eagles won its last AFCON trophy.
Reacting to the Nigerian team’s victory over Angola, Governor Radda commended the Eagles for putting smiles on the faces of Nigerian citizens, and millions of football lovers across the globe yesterday.
He saluted the team for grinding out the expected result against their formidable opponent, urging the players and coach to remain focus and not be distracted in order to achieve victories in their remaining games at the AFCON football fiesta.
“The Eagles should know that the entire country is solidly behind them, and will be hoping they return home with the coveted trophy.
“They must remain focus, tenacious and not underrate their remaining opponents, if they wish to emerge as the new African champions come February 11, 2024. Once again, congratulations to our Darling Super Eagles for their brilliant performances so far,” Radda said.
