The Twenty third edition of Igala Education Summit has been held at Anyigba, Dekina LGA of Kogi State with a call for the sustenance of Late Professor Francis Idachaba’s vision.
The Chairperson of the Foundation, Mrs Achenyo Idachaba Obaro made the call in a Key note address via zoom at the summit.
Mrs Achenyo Idachaba Obaro described the theme for the Summit as apt, especially now that vocational training is needed to ensure adequate employment for Igala sons and daughters.
She commended the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward David Onoja for his indelible contribution to the Foundation, Members of Board of Trustees of the Foundation, the Executive Director, Engineer Abdul Audu and the Local Organizing Committee for their massive support that led to the success of the 2023 Summit.
In a Speech, the Vice Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba; Professor Marietu Tenuche, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Professor O.J. Salihu thanked the organizers for the consistency of the annual event and paid glowing tribute to Late Professor Francis
Idachaba for convening the Summit over Two decades ago.
Presenting the Lead Paper at the Summit, the Vice Chancellor of Joseph Serwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Engineer Professor Isaac Itodo dwelt on the theme of the Summit,’ReformingTechnical and Vocational Education for Job Creation in Igalaland’, and called for the inclusion of skills acquisition as a core issue in the educational structure and curriculum of education institutions in Igalaland to produce self reliant graduates.
Doctor Baba Danjuma, immediate past Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Idah and Doctor Oguche Monday Damian of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba also presented Papers at the Summit and were on the same page with the Lead Paper Presenter on the need to imbibe Technical and Vocational Education, hook, line and sinker in Igalaland.
Goodwill messages came from Professor Andrew Zekeri on behalf of Igala USA and UK, Professor Sunday Atawodi on behalf of Members of Board of Trustees and Professor Joseph Omada, immediate Past Executive Director of Igala Education Foundation.
Presenting the First Class and Distinction Graduates who were screened and certified for this year’s award, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Engineer Abdul Audu expressed joy that the seed planted by Late Professor Francis Idachaba Twenty Three years ago is yielding dividends for the educational growth of Igala/Bassa land and urged them to be worthy ambassadors of the Foundation.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Doctor Lawrence Achimugu, a Former Best Teacher in Nigeria thanked all those who contributed to the success of the summit and urged them not relent until the vision of the Initiator and Founder of the Foundation is explicitly realized.
Highlight of the Summit was the Presentation of Certificates of Honour to First Class Graduates of Igala Extraction.
