To herald the 2023/24 legal year in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, on Monday, commissioned a newly-constructed twin court chambers for the State’s High Court judges.

The event took place at the Headquarters of the Katsina State High Court of Justice.

During the inauguration of the court complex named after Justice Amiru Sanusi, six brand-new Toyota jeeps were also presented by Governor Radda to the four recently-sworn in judges of the Katsina High Court, and two Khadis of the State’s Shariah Court of Appeal.

In his address at the ceremony, the Katsina State helmsman emphasized the need for the judiciary to join hands with the executive and legislature, in ensuring that criminals are appropriately punish for offences committed.

He however, appreciated the Katsina High Court in responding to security challenges in the State, by establishing Community and Conflict Resolution Centres, across the State.

This, he said, was in line with the policy of his administration’ in addressing the lingering security challenges bedeviling Katsina, and entire North West, in general.

Mallam Radda admitted that the recent amendment of the State Local Government Law has provided for the establishment of at least one Dispute and Conflict Resolution Centre at a major market in each of the 34 local government areas of the State.

The measure, according to the Governor, would allow security agencies and courts to attend to the more serious and demanding legal cases.

He therefore, called on all those in Katsina’s justice sector to give necessary support and legal backing to the recently-inaugurated State Community Watch Corps, to effectively operate.

He said: “Indeed, the constitutional role of the judiciary can only be discharged effectively if its independence is guaranteed”.

On her part, the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Fadila Mohammed Dikko, said in the just-outgone legal year, the Public Prosecution Department of their Ministry treated 533 case dairies received for legal advice.

Of the treated cases, she said 48 judgements were passed at the State High Court, alongside with 23 others at the appellate courts.

Bar. Dikko appreciated Governor Radda for granting an approval to their Ministry to recruit additional state counsel and organize capacity-building training to improve their ability.
