Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to fixing the rot of the State’s education sector.

He gave the reassurance in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, to commemorate the 2023 World Teachers’Day, WTD, themed: “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage”.

The day is marked every October 5, to honour teachers across the world. It is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education, and also to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation, and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally.

The 2023 WTD celebration focuses on the importance of stopping the decline in the number of teachers and then starting to increase their number, globally.

Describing teachers as the most veritable tool in moulding and shaping the destiny of every society and nation, Governor Radda assured that his administration will continue to prioritize the welfare of all Katsina teachers.

“As a former classroom teacher, I know the efforts and sacrifices teachers make to nurture the younger generation to become great personalities in life. And that is why our administration will never toy with the health of Katsina’s education sector. We are desirous of changing the narrative of our State’s educational system, comprehensively,” he said.

He further emphasized that boosting the quality of education remains one of the cardinal objectives of his administration, urging teachers and educationists in Katsina not to relent in moulding the future of children and students in the State.

Appreciating the good works being done by Katsina teachers, Radda also highlighted the strides his administration has recorded so far, in terms of resetting the standard of education in the State.

“To our dear teachers, I wish to inform them that our government will continue to train and retrain them, in order to boost their capacity. We have so far awarded multi-million contracts for the construction of hundreds of primary and secondary schools, across the length and breadth of our dear State.

“Again, we have awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of both primary schools and secondary schools in the State, with obsolete facilities. Among other things, our administration is also building model schools across the three Katsina Senatorial Districts.

“Lest I forget, we have recruited up to 7,000 teachers to boost manpower in Katsina’s education sector. Equally, we will soon start disbursing scholarships to Katsina medical students. Tertiary institutions in the State are also not left out.

“We are aggressively upgrading the standard of all Katsina tertiary schools, while providing massive supports to their federal counterparts. As a government, we are determined to restore the glory of Katsina’s educational system in no distant future,” Governor Radda noted.

He called on spirited individuals and philanthropists in the State to support his government’s laudable vision of holistically reconfiguring the face of Katsina’s education sector.
