The Provost of Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa, Prof. M. K. Ibrahim, has called for the strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into higher education as the College commenced a three-day capacity-building workshop on Artificial Intelligence skills for staff.
Represented by the Deputy Provost, Mrs. Are Falilat Tinuola, Prof. Ibrahim described AI as a transformative force that is redefining teaching, learning, research, and institutional administration. He emphasized the importance of equipping academics with the knowledge and skills required to effectively leverage emerging digital technologies.
According to him, the workshop reflects the College’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and continuous professional development. He noted that participants would acquire practical competencies that can enhance research productivity, instructional delivery, and overall service efficiency through the effective application of AI tools.
The programme brings together lecturers, researchers, and administrators to examine the growing role of AI in higher education. Key areas of focus include AI fundamentals, applications in teaching and research, opportunities and challenges associated with AI adoption, and emerging developments in the field.
Participants are also receiving practical training on the use of leading AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Elicit, to support research, academic writing, and productivity. A notable component of the workshop is a prompt engineering session based on the CLEAR Framework, designed to improve the effective use of generative AI tools.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the College Director of ICT, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, highlighted the need for institutions to proactively embrace emerging technologies in order to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. He noted that the workshop is expected to strengthen the capacity of staff to integrate AI-driven solutions into teaching, research, and administrative processes, thereby enhancing institutional effectiveness and academic excellence.
