The attention of my supporters, stakeholders and members of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi East Senatorial District is hereby drawn to the outcome of the recent party’s Senatorial ticket process ahead of the forthcoming elections.
I joined the race for the Kogi East Senatorial ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress with utmost faith in the principles of equity, fairness, and the understanding that the ticket had been zoned to Ankpa Federal Constituency, comprising Ankpa, Olamaboro, and Omala Local Government Areas.
My decision to contest was not only predicated on zoning considerations, but also on my proven capacity, competence, and readiness to offer quality representation for the good people of Kogi East at the Nigerian Senate.
It is a matter of public record that Ankpa Local Government, despite its enormous voting strength and consistent support for the party, has not had the opportunity of occupying the Kogi East Senatorial seat, as the position has repeatedly gone in favour of Olamaboro Local Government. Understandably, this development generated strong expectations among party faithfuls and stakeholders that justice, fairness, and political balance would favour Ankpa this time around.
However, despite these realities and the overwhelming belief that Ankpa possesses the numbers and political strength to secure victory for the party, the Senatorial ticket has once again been given to another aspirant from Olamaboro Local Government.
Following wide consultations with political associates, elders, supporters, and critical stakeholders across Kogi East, I have decided, in the overall interest of party unity, peace, and the future of the district, to relinquish my ambition in support of Distinguished Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho.
This decision is borne out of deep respect for the principle of continuity, the strategic advantage of ranking opportunities within the Senate, and the collective need to sustain the influence and relevance of Kogi East at the national level.
I believe that personal ambition must sometimes give way for broader political stability and unity. I therefore call on my supporters and well wishers to remain calm, steadfast, and committed to the ideals of the party, while keeping hope alive that the spirit of equity and justice will, in the nearest future, favour Ankpa Local Government for the senatorial seat. I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming support, encouragement, prayers, and solidarity shown to me throughout the course of this journey. I remain committed to the growth, development, and political advancement of Kogi East and shall continue to contribute meaningfully to the progress of Kogi State and the nation at large.
Signed:
Dr Kashim Yunusa Akor, NPOM,FNIM.
