Yahaya Idris, popularly known as the Oracle of New Media, has criticised Muhammed Lawal Dubagari Jnr. over what he described as a “poorly scripted attempt at damage control” following his alleged involvement in a factional protest of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Nafiu Bala.
In a statement on Friday morning, Idris expressed disappointment, noting that he had expected Dubagari, given his background in student and youth activism, to promptly issue an apology to the Nasarawa State Government over what he termed a political misstep.
“I expected you to demonstrate better judgment by issuing a timely apology, especially as someone who has been active in both student and youth movements,” Idris stated.
He referenced remarks by the National President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, who clarified that the council’s presence at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office was solely to support the electoral body and not to align with any factional political interests.
According to Idris, the NYCN leadership emphasised that no political faction invited them and that the council remains non-partisan, committed only to advancing the interests of Nigerian youths.
Addressing Dubagari directly, Idris faulted his claim that he attended the protest in his capacity as the outgoing Speaker of the Northern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), pointing out that he is currently serving as an aide in the Nasarawa State Government.
He challenged Dubagari to provide evidence justifying his participation in the protest.
“Can you present any formal invitation extended to you or your organisation to participate in the protest? Do you have any documented authorisation or agreement with members of the ADC that warranted your involvement?” he queried.
Idris further raised concerns about the composition of the protest, questioning why individuals linked to the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) were predominantly present.
He also queried whether other government aide, including a security aide from Toto Local Government Area, were acting in any official or organisational capacity during the protest.
Idris noted that he would be willing to support Dubagari’s position if credible evidence is presented to address the issues raised.
“If you can convincingly clarify these concerns, I will not hesitate to support narratives that reflect your position and that of others involved in this matter,” he added.
