In a significant move towards enhancing the economic prospects of its youth population and fostering community reconciliation, the Katsina State Government has reiterated its plans to establish an Enterprises Development Agency.

This promising initiative was confirmed by State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, during a recent meeting with the Chief Mission Officer of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mr. Laurent MJ de Boeck.

Governor Radda expressed his commitment to the welfare of the state’s young people, noting that a bill aimed at creating the proposed agency has been presented to the State Assembly. The agency, to be chaired by Governor Radda himself, will play a pivotal role in providing skills training to unemployed youths.

Furthermore, agency will empower them with financial capital to establish their own businesses, thereby generating employment opportunities and aiding in the reduction of unemployment rates.

“I firmly believe that by investing in the skills and capabilities of our youths, we can pave the way for sustainable growth and progress,” Governor Radda emphasized.

Governor Radda also highlighted the state’s plans to tackle unemployment through agricultural activities. A comprehensive master plan for irrigation is currently being developed to engage young individuals in year-round farming activities.

This approach seeks to not only create employment opportunities but also promote food security within the state.

Appreciating the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for its dedication, Governor Radda acknowledged the organization’s focus on justice building missions to address criminality and banditry. He pledged increased collaboration with the IOM to address these critical challenges.

Mr. Laurent MJ de Boeck, the Chief of Mission to Nigeria for IOM, announced the launch of the Conflict Mitigation and Community Reconciliation Project in the North West. He called for the collaboration of the state administration in providing support to local governments facing security challenges, including Batsari, Danmusa, Jibia, and Kankara. Mr. de Boeck stressed the importance of rebuilding trust and justice within the community, alongside addressing the mental health needs of those affected by conflict.

“We are committed to rebuilding not just structures, but lives and communities,” Mr. de Boeck affirmed.

The collaborative efforts between the Katsina State Government and IOM signify a positive step towards empowering youths and fostering peace in the region. With a shared vision to uplift the community, these initiatives are expected to yield positive and sustainable results for the state.
