The Social Democratic Party (SDP) expresses its strong disapproval of the Kogi State Government’s recent actions, particularly the purchase of refurbished vehicles for local government chairmen.
The SDP wishes to clarify that the provision of official cars and security for the 21 Local Government Chairmen in Kogi State is not a favor, but their entitlement upon assuming office. It is deeply concerning that the Kogi State Government is attempting to portray this as an achievement while the state faces numerous challenges, particularly without proper accountability for the project despite the billions allocated.
The SDP has consistently advocated for local government autonomy since the beginning of the Ododo administration. The people of Kogi State continue to suffer under the current state of affairs, mirroring practices from the former administration of GYB.
We urge Governor Ododo to prioritize good governance and cease these manipulative tactics. The focus should be on addressing the pressing issues facing the state and improving the lives of the citizens through total transparency. Furthermore, we call for an end to interference in local government affairs, which directly undermines grassroots growth.
