An appeal has gone to the newly elected local government chairman for Ankpa local government, Engr Farouk Yahaya Ogbo to give historic Ankpa township stadium , a face lift by reconstructing the entire complex.
Ejilogu youths in the diaspora made the appeal stating that since the stadium remain the symbol of unity of the people of the local government, then it deserves full face lift .
Ahmadu Momoh who spoke on behalf of the people, described the situation of the over four decades stadium as pathetic that needed urgent attention.
He urge the chairman to urgently include the massive renovation of the stadium in the 2025 budget of the local government.
Since the stadium is a point of convergence for all activities in and around Ankpa, there is need for urgent renovation.
He also appeal to both State and Federal Lawmakers to provide both their official and personal intervention to ensure the age long stadium returned to standard of its lost glory .
“When we were growing up , Ankpa stadium remained the best and the pride of the people of the area in all the existing local government of kogi east , reminisce of the legend ‘Leopard Football Club’ .”
He commended the continuous inculcation of peace and unity in the area through football, but urged organisers to put the face lift of the stadium as part of their agenda.
“It will be an embarrassment when visitors from all walks of life comes around to watch football in a tattered Stadium, stating that Ankpa town should grow beyond that .”
