The recent landmark commissioning in October, of Mother and Child Hospital built and named after Nigeria’s First Lady , Mrs Oluremi Tinubu will go down memory lane considering the fact of the timing, facilities and equipments provided by the SDGs and state of the art infrastructure , hitherto lacked by the North Eastern region located in Gombe state in it’s entirety before now, and by extension the entire nation.

The leading and complimentary roles achieved by SDGs ,powered and domesticated by the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Renewed Hope Initiative RHI of the first lady had brought back the lost glory, interms of Basic Primary Health Care PHC, and Maternal, Neonatal, Children Care, and will reduce to the barest minimum infant mortality rates.

To achieve this , SDGs has consolidated and fulfilled Goal 3, Good Health and Well Being in line with the realization through provision of specially equipped Hospitals, centres across the country.

With the anxiousness to achieving the global requirements inline with 17 Goals , no doubt the success already attained and ongoing efforts at sub-nationals cannot be overemphasized.

While in Gombe, the elation of Nigeria’s first lady went thus ..

“Describing the project as “more than just a structure,” the First Lady said the hospital “represents care, compassion, and a commitment to the well-being of women and children.”

“This hospital is a symbol of care, compassion, and commitment to the well-being of women and children,” Mrs. Tinubu stated. “It aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises access to quality healthcare, particularly for the most vulnerable groups in our society.”

“The First Lady commended Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya and his wife Hajiya Asma’u Yahaya for their continued investment in healthcare infrastructure and for naming the hospital in her honour. ”

“She also expressed gratitude to Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, OFR, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), for spearheading the initiative and driving Nigeria’s progress towards achieving the global goals.”!

These were the speeches of Nigeria’s first lady , Oluremi Tinubu, the initiator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI , Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and protagonist of the construction of the new Mother and Child Hospital in Gombe state, others to promote basic health facilities of Maternal and Child health across North East, that was lacking for decades.

SDGs has provided similar facilities and centres in the last two years in the North West, North Central, South West, South East and South South with recent commisioning in Warri simultaneously by SDGs and Olu of Warri , South South, the Oluremi Tinubu Mother and Child 100 bed Hospital in the area.

The passion, zeal of SDGs, in collaboration with Renewed Hope Initiative RHI, and Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in the last two years has eradicated the age long health challenges, particularly at the basic health level for so many decades in the North East, and by extension across the country.

The conviction of sub-nationals by the SSA to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire In partnership and synergy was also acknowledged by the federal government from her strides and cooperation to ensure a healthy environment in collaboration with Renewed Hope Initiative RHI and “Save Mama” a program of the Federal Ministry of Health towards healthy living of Mother and Child through Maternal and Children care.

For driving SDGs Goal 3 to fruition in Nigeria in line with the global engagements and requirements with a view to achieving the requirements of decade of action ,2020-2030 Agenda, showed alot of remarkable progress domestically and globally over the years and the discussions in the last 80 United Nations General Assembly UNGA, held in September.

The Presidential presentation of achieving success in SDGs Goals 4 and Goals 3 in 2022, Quality Basic Education, Health and Well Being leveraged on the success story towards 2020-2030 Agenda.

Speaking at the occasion, SSAP-SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire expressed deep commitment towards realizing the gigantic humanitarian project that will not only ensure the welfare of the critically vulnerable Nigerians, but has bring relief to that section of the country, stating that the new health edifice has vital link to the success story of SDGs Goal 3 in Nigeria globally tagged, ‘Good Health and Well Being for all.’

She maintained that the edifice was not only provided for health attention alone, but commitment and attention to delivering quality health care to the society describing the hospital as a ” Sanctuary of Care, Symbol of Renewed Hope” Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration that have contrived the good omen just two years down the line.

With all technical, infrastructural, scientific and other basic requirements needed by a specialist medical facility, it is a vision grounded in “Social Inclusion, Equity, and the Strategic national development outcomes across Nigeria.”

Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire retorted.

Speaking further , she affirmed, under SDGs in Nigeria, “Every Mother Deserves a Safe Delivery, Child , Every Child deserves a healthy start to life, while a Baby’s first breath should never be their mother’s last , as the sacred moment of birth should be for a celebration and not tragedy” Orelope-Adefulire affirmed.

Coming at a time when the last UNGA 2025 refers to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which was held from September 9 to September 23, 2025, in New York.

The high-level general debate held in September 23–29, and the session’s theme is “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights”. With Key events included a “Climate Summit and a focus on accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ”

Achieving such a legacy and gigantic milestone just few months away from the global convergence showed the commitment of SDGs in Nigeria not only achieving the decade of action 2020- 2030 ,but beyond it towards other global contrivance.

OSSAP SDGs further asserted her passionate message at the occasion of the commisioning in Gombe ..

“In her remarks at the occasion, Princess Orelope-Adefulire emphasised that the new facility stands as “a vital step in Nigeria’s journey towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 — Good Health and Well-being for all.”

“Today, we are not merely unveiling a health facility,” she said. “We are reaffirming our collective commitment to delivering quality healthcare to the most vulnerable segments of our society. This hospital is not just a building; it is a promise fulfilled, a sanctuary of care, and a symbol of renewed hope.”

“She further noted that the hospital, fitted with state-of-the-art equipment including operating theatres, recovery rooms, laboratories, and maternity wards, was built under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR — “a vision grounded in social inclusion, equity, and the strategic acceleration of national development outcomes across the country.”

“Every mother deserves a safe delivery. Every child deserves a healthy start to life,” she stressed. “A baby’s first breath should never be their mother’s last. The sacred moment of birth must be a celebration, not a tragedy.”

“This hospital is directly linked to the achievement of SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being, as well as other cross-cutting SDGs,” she said. “Our duty is clear: to safeguard the lives of mothers and children, restore dignity to families, and build a future where no woman pays the ultimate price for giving life.”

“According to the SSAP-SDGs, the Gombe project is part of a broader series of Mother and Child Hospitals established across the federation. These facilities are designed to reduce maternal and infant mortality, improve access to essential healthcare services, and strengthen Nigeria’s progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

“The hospital is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment. These include, among others: Operating Theatres; Recovery Rooms; Private and General Wards; a Scanning Room; Consultation Rooms; and a Laboratory. Others include an Ultra-Scan Machine; Vacuum Extractor Delivery Set; and an Emergency Cart with full complements. This facility is directly linked to the achievement of SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being for All, as well as other cross-cutting SDGs.”

“OSSAP-SDGs has worked tirelessly to construct and furnish this state-of-the-art facility as a strategic tool for healthcare service provision,” Orelope-Adefulire said. “It is expected that the beneficiaries will make judicious use of it in a sustainable way for the benefit of mothers and children.”

“She reaffirmed her office’s commitment to prioritising impactful projects and partnerships that advance human capital development, social inclusion, and equitable growth across Nigeria.”

“Together, and with God’s help, we will continue to prioritise interventions with potential impacts on the lives of the poor and vulnerable members of our society, so that no Nigerian is left behind,” she concluded.
