“In recognition of your outstanding contributions to the ECOWAS Parliament as the First Deputy Speaker of the subregional Parliament, we are bestowing on you today the SANKOFA Award for Legislative Excellence in Africa.”
These were the words spoken by the representatives of the Network of Sahel Youth for Progress, Development and Democracy, at my Abuja residence.
The President of the Pan Africa Youth Association was represented by Dr Najib Usman during the award presentation.
Fostering unity and integration of our subregion through the ECOWAS Parliament, the people’s assembly, was the reason I was selected for the prestigious award by the esteemed association.
Like many others, this award would encourage me to do more for our beloved country, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, our sub-region, West Africa and our continent, Africa.
As the popular saying goes, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” I will double my efforts at the regional Parliament. Unity, progress, and integration of our subregion are paramount to us at the Parliament.
I express my profound appreciation to the association, whose members are spread across all the countries in West Africa, for this recognition.
