The Nyesom Ezenwo Wike led Federal Capital Territory FCT administration is not only concentrating on infrastructure, but provision of social security in the area of health, education, security of lives and properties, provision of portable and assesible water in the FCT and environs.
Hence the completion and commissioning of “Greater Abuja Water Supply Network” Lop 1,2,5,6 awarded in
2017 at a cost of $470M and reviewed in tandem with the current realities, eight years down the line was commissioned by the Wike led administration to resolve the perennial water shortages in the nations city , FCT and area councils.
The project executed in partnership with the Chinese government was on agreement and working term of 85% trance by the Chinese government, while the Nigerian government funded 15% of the contract sum.
The expanded water scheme from 240- 720 cubic since the creation and movement of the nation’s city from Lagos to Abuja in the last four decades, will glaringly resolve the intermittent scarcity of pipe borne water in the entire Federal Capital Territory FCT, considering the expansion thrice from the previous cubic.
With heavy subscription on the previous 240 cubic and the current expansion to 720 cubic, no doubt the residents of the FCT will no doubt heave a sigh of relief and access to portable drinking water and for domestic purposes.
The decision of Wike led administration in the FCT to complete abandoned infrastructure and social services projects abandoned many decades, like provision of water has further enlivened and encouraged the people of FCT into supporting the present administration.
Without hesitation, the Wike led administration in FCT apart from ensuring the completion of the eight years abandoned water project , also embarked on a trip to China on assumption of duty to further expand the water reticulation from the current level of completion to other areas in the six area councils to ensure a lasting solution to water scarcity.
While in China , the Minister signed series of Memorandum of Understanding MOU with particular reference to water expansion in the FCT and to address the provision of portable water supply.
The completion of the $470M dollar water scheme was already yielding results of the trip to China and preparation for expansion to address the water problems of the FCT.
With the completion of “Greater Abuja Water Supply Network”, Lop 1,2,5,6,by the Wike led administration in the FCT, no doubt, the suffering of four decades of water scarcity is gradually been addressed two years of the present administration.
