The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD CON, announces the commencement of disbursing approximately ₦3 billion naira Federal Government flood relief funds to victims across the state.

The relief funds provided by the Federal Government aimed at providing succour to 1,067 carefully identified flood victims by the state’s Technical Committee and others by the natural disaster across the state.

Governor Radda made this announcement during the official flag off ceremony held at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) premises, today.

He said of these 1,067 victims identified by the committee, 439 whose houses were completely destroyed will receive ₦600,000 each, while 628 others with significantly damaged homes will be granted ₦300,000 each.

The Governor noted that the state government has procured building materials worth over ₦200 million for distribution to 1,772 victims whose houses suffered partial damage across the state.

Recounting the severity of the flood, the Governor said, “Homes, farmlands, roads and public utilities have been damaged by the devastating effect of the natural disaster, leaving thousands of residents homeless with worsening environmental degradation.”

Governor Radda further expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led government and the humanitarian agencies for their support to disaster victims in Katsina State.

He emphasised that a technical committee appointed by the state government meticulously identified the beneficiaries.

Earlier, the State Deputy Governor Mallam Faruq Lawal Jobe, who chairs the SEMA governing council, confirmed that ₦451.8 million has been allocated for disbursement to the victims.

In her remarks, the SEMA Executive Secretary Hajia Binta Husaini Dangani reported that the state government has already released over ₦465,114,835 of the ₦1.14 billion approved for flood victims across the state.

She appealed for the release of the remaining funds to complete the disbursement process.

Dangani briefed the gathering on SEMA’s achievements, noting that since the administration of Governor Radda took office, the agency has conducted approximately 25 distributions of relief materials and cash to disaster victims in Katsina State.
