The Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives and Member Representing Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims has sponsored a bill titled “An Act to provide a framework for the promotion, protection, provision of safety, and enforcement of the rights and obligations of commercial commuters in Nigeria and for other related matters, 2023.”
The bill aims to ensure that the safety, comfort, and rights of commuters were prioritized such that commuters’ rights and dignity are well promoted and protected through a national passenger protection plan that will include insurance coverage for road, rail, and water mode of transports.
The bill which has now passed through both the first and second (lead debate) reading when passed into law by the Nigerian House of Representatives and signed as an act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would ensure a commercial transporters insurance that will come through a subscription to premium insurance(s) that can facilitate claims under the National Passengers Protection Plan.
