In their first gathering under the leadership of Chairman Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, the Northern States Governors’ Forum met on December 15, 2023, in Kaduna.
The Forum expressed condolences for the Tudun Biri bombing incident in Kaduna, acknowledging the loss of lives and property. They appreciated the response from both the Kaduna State and Federal Governments.
Committing to a thorough investigation, the Forum aims to compensate victims and prevent future occurrences. Their collective focus includes enhancing security, promoting peaceful coexistence, economic development, addressing youth unemployment, tackling drug abuse, and revitalizing education.
Commending the Federal Government’s efforts in combating insecurity, the Forum pledged unity in collaboration with security agencies, community engagement, and technological advancements. They emphasized addressing root causes such as poverty and unemployment.
Additionally, the Forum resolved to tackle environmental challenges in Northern Nigeria, contributing to poverty reduction and security improvement.
The governors committed to fast-tracking regional integration through investments in infrastructure, human capital development, trade, agriculture, and cultural exchanges.
A committee was formed to review the activities of the New Nigerian Development Company for increased productivity and profitability.
In a display of solidarity, the Forum collectively donated One Hundred and Eighty Million Naira (N180,000,000.00) to support victims of the Tudun Biri bombing incident.
The next Forum meeting is scheduled for March 2, 2024.
