It’s no longer news that the sad story of the debacle called election for the coveted office of the Governor of Kogi has taken place leaving a veil of dust of anguish and pains in its wake.
It was a repeat of the sad story of Nigeria’s political evolution which keeps foisting on the people, rejected or unfit leaders, year after year, season after season. Each time an election is held it is expected that lessons are learnt and are used to improve the quality and transparency of subsequent elections. Laws are re-enacted only for the same law to be sidetracked and the position are snatched away through the instrumentality of technicalities of Judicial reviews. This same judges live amongst and see the results of their judgments on the populace. Yet the same thing goes unabated after every election season.
The Kogi State Gubernatorial election of 11 November 2023 has taken the fraudulent election process to another dimension; from the use of helicopters, thugs and violence to now, pre-writing results before election commences. This is now working from the answers to the questions! What a society! For how long shall we continue to take one step forward and two steps backward?
The society must rise up against this injustice in order to stem the tide. Keep quiet and doing nothing will only aggravate the problem and keep us behind other nations of the world! We must thank the military for curbing the excesses of the violent rulers who perpetuate themselves in power through the use of force.
This new style of writing results must be dealt with and the time is now while in the bud. This year’s election must not be allowed to stand and the people must rise up to challenge this. We can only develop when we elect just and incorruptible leadership and until then, the viscous circle of poverty and underdevelopment will continue to live with us. Again the people of Kogi are about to miss an opportunity to elect a high quality leadership which Senator Dino MELAYE represents if this election is allowed stand.
I salute all the members of emancipation team who have stood firmly to fight cause of justice and believe in the outstanding qualities of His Excellency, Senator Dino MELAYE and firm belief that for equity, justice and fairness, the West be supported to take the next seat of the Executive Governor the State. I told not a few of out elite brothers and sisters to tow this line else the opportunity would slip back into the hands of GYB but they won’t listen. In every forum I preached the message, I was perceived to be against my people. I was removed from a number of Igala platforms. But my faith in this Dino project as the only viable one never waned. I’m not sure many love my people like I do and I can only chose the best for them.
