Good day Mr. President. I know you are extremely busy with work but permit me to share with you my thoughts and concerns regarding #KogiDecides2023.

I write to you today Mr. President with a deep sense of concern regarding the upcoming governorship election in my home state, Kogi State. As a Kogite and a passionate advocate for good governance and democratic principles, I feel compelled to draw your attention to the need for a transparent and unbiased electoral process that upholds the will of the people.

First and foremost, I must express my concerns regarding your commitment in these off cycle elections holding in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa. Though you have assured us through your party Chairman, Dr. Umar Ganduje that you have no partisan interest in the elections, I still want you Mr. President to demonstrate this to us on the 11th by ensuring that the will of the people prevail.

I know Mr. President that the responsibility that comes with this office is immense, and I acknowledge the demands it places on you. However, it is precisely because of your position and influence that I implore you to play a pivotal role in ensuring a level playing field for all political parties involved in the Kogi governorship election.

Sir, it is no secret that your party faces an uphill battle in this election. While I understand the importance of political competition and the vitality it brings to our democracy, I firmly believe that the outcome of any election should accurately reflect the will of the people. It is therefore imperative that you, as the President, allow the democratic process to unfold without undue interference or favoritism.

To this end, I kindly request that you issue a standing order to security agencies, directing them to act as neutral umpires in the election. The events that transpired during the 2019 election in Kogi, such as the use of a police helicopter to disperse voters in Ganaja and the subsequent violence and manipulation of results, left a very dark indelible mark on our democracy. We must not allow such occurrences to repeat themselves. The people of Kogi deserve a fair and peaceful election where their voices are heard and their votes count.

This election represents a crucial milestone for you, Mr. President, as it is the first election you are presiding over since assuming office. It serves as a litmus test of your integrity and your commitment to upholding the tenets of democracy. The eyes of the nation are upon you, hoping to see a leader who prioritizes the welfare of his people and fosters an environment conducive to free and fair elections.

In conclusion, I urge you, Mr. President to look beyond partisan interests and allow the will of the people to prevail in the Kogi governorship election. Let this be a testament to your leadership, your dedication to democratic values, and your genuine desire to do what is right for our great nation.

Agada Abuh Theophilus.
